Introduction ZHANG ZHI, known in the literary world as “Diablo,” is one of the most prominent poets, critics, translators, and editors in contemporary China. Born in 1965 in Phoenix Town of Baxian County, Sichuan Province, his literary career has spanned more than four decades. His works, translated into over forty languages, have left a profound mark on the global literary scene, making him a cultural bridge connecting East and West. Zhang Zhi possesses an exceptional ability to merge his Chinese cultural roots with a global vision, rendering his work a unique window into universal human concerns. Poetry, that art where emotion and thought intertwine, is humanity’s eternal medium for expressing its deepest essence, fears, and dreams. It is not merely an arrangement of words but the voice of humanity, reflecting its experiences across time and space. In this collection of poems, Zhang Zhi emerges as a poet with a singular vision, exploring existential questions and profound human issues with a style that resonates deeply with readers and stirs their emotions. The titles of this collection reveal an intellectual and spiritual diversity that reflects multiple dimensions of life. Poems such as “The Final phase” and “Glass Eye” explore perceptions of time and shifting realities, while others like “Rising” and “Dreamland” take the reader on a philosophical journey of challenge and aspiration. Poems such as “In Memory of a Butchered Chicken” and “A Letter About ‘Ah’“ reveal the symbolic and satirical aspects of Zhang Zhi’s style, adding remarkable variety to this body of work. Translation, as is often said, is an art in itself, not simply the transfer of words from one language to another. It is a process that breathes new life into literary texts within different cultural contexts. Translating poetry, in particular, is a challenge, as it requires preserving the poetic essence and aesthetic of the original text while adapting it to the context of the new culture. I, Taghrid Bou Merhi, have translated this collection from English into Spanish with the conviction that this poetic work deserves to reach a new audience. In this translation, I have endeavored to convey the beauty and depth of the original text while adding a touch that respects the literary tastes of Spanish-speaking readers. It has been a challenging task but also an enriching experience that allowed me to engage with an exceptional poetic work that highlights the power and profound impact of words. I hope that Spanish-speaking readers will find in this poetry collection a unique voice that resonates with their feelings, touches their depths, and takes them on a journey into Zhang Zhi’s world—a universe that blends symbolism, human depth, and cultural openness. This collection is not merely a set of literary texts; it is an invitation to reflect on life and understand the many facets of human existence.

About the author
Taghrid Bou Merhi, a famous Lebanese multilingual poet, writer, journalist and translator living in Brasil. She has authored 18 books and three encyclopedias, a translator of 23 books to date, an author of 56 articles, a presenter of 11 books (five Arabic books and six foreign ones), and she participated in more than 60 Arabic books and more than 75 anthology international. She is an active member of various literary and creative platforms and editor of 8 Magazines Arabic, and responsible for the translation department. She is an advisory member among ten international poetry consultants chosen by Chinese media giant CCTV. She is advisor to the International Union of Arab Intellectuals, in the Media Authority for Translation Affairs and advisor to the countries Al-Sham literary platform for literary translation. She holds a degree in law and political science. She has received numerous international awards, including the Nizar Sartawi International Creativity Award in 2021, Naji Numan Award in literature in 2023, and the Sahitya Pata Kazi Nazrul Islam Memorial Award in 2022. International Peace Medal Award, Peace Award, certificate for Hyperpoem Book (a poetry book publishing 2000 poets), and other awards.
She received the Journalistic Excellence Shield from the Nile and Euphrates Paper Magazine in 2022 and 2023. Her writings are part of several national and international magazines, newspapers, journals and anthologies. Her poems have been translated into 47 languages. She speaks five languages.
