INTRODUCTION
To The Book TUMULTUOUS OCEAN

Written by poet writer Journalist and Translator TAGHRID BOU MERHI

Poetry is a form of artistic expression that uses language to evoke emotions, convey ideas, and create aesthetic experiences. Its value lies in its ability to communicate complex emotions, explore diverse perspectives, and distill profound thoughts into concise and often metaphorical language. As a creative medium, poetry provides a unique avenue for self-expression, fostering creativity and allowing individuals to connect on a deeper level with themselves and others. Its purpose extends beyond mere communication, offering a space for reflection, contemplation, and the exploration of the human experience.

One who looks at the poet Hilal’s poems in his book “THE TUMULTUOUS OCEAN” finds that they are of the flash type, that literary type that is beautiful and powerful at the same time.
A flash poem is a concise burst of poetic expression, often capturing a moment or emotion in a few lines. Like a snapshot, it freezes a fragment of experience, distilling it into a potent essence. In this brevity, each word carries weight, and the reader is invited to fill the gaps with their own interpretation. Flash poems demand precision, relying on vivid imagery and evocative language to leave a lasting impact. The brevity of these poems allows for quick consumption while leaving a lingering resonance, making them a compelling form for encapsulating the essence of a fleeting moment or emotion.

The aesthetics of poetry according to the poet Hilal are a delicate interplay of language, rhythm, and imagery, creating a tapestry that engages both the intellect and the emotions. Style in poetry encompasses the unique voice and choices made by a poet, shaping the way words unfold on the page. Aesthetic appeal arises from the careful selection of words, the cadence of verses, and the vividness of metaphors. It is a dance of sound and meaning, where the arrangement of words becomes an art form. Each poet contributes a distinct style to the vast spectrum of poetic aesthetics, reflecting individual sensibilities and cultural influences. The beauty of poetry’s aesthetics lies in its ability to transcend the literal, inviting readers into a realm where language becomes a vessel for profound expression and imaginative exploration.

The title “WHAT AM I? I DO NIT KNOW GEADA” sets a tone of existential questioning and uncertainty, providing a poignant entry point to the poet Hilal’s book. By starting with such a fundamental and introspective inquiry, the poet immediately engages readers in a journey of self-discovery and reflection. The title suggests a search for identity and purpose, echoing universal themes that resonate with the human experience.
The significance of this title lies in its ability to draw readers into a shared exploration of the complexities of existence. The initial question captures a sense of inner turmoil and the quest for meaning, setting the stage for the emotional and intellectual terrain the poet will navigate throughout the book. It serves as an invitation for readers to connect with the poet’s introspection, fostering a sense of universality in the human struggle to understand oneself and find a path forward. The simplicity of the question in the title belies the profound depth it implies, offering readers a glimpse into the poet’s contemplative and vulnerable exploration of identity and purpose.

What is striking is that all the poems are short, from the first poem until reaching the last poem, which exceeds twenty pages, and perhaps the poet Hilal has a unique purpose in this arrangement…

The last poem was a very long poem (25 pages) and titled
“THE GLOUD OF TYRANNY BURST EVERYWHERE”
What is tyranny and what does it include?

Tyranny refers to oppressive and unjust use of power, often involving the abuse of authority, cruelty, and a disregard for individual rights. In the context of the poem titled “The Cloud of Tyranny Burst Everywhere,” it suggests a pervasive and widespread manifestation of oppressive forces. The title implies a forceful eruption or spreading of tyranny, possibly affecting various aspects of society.

The concept’s background could be rooted in political, social, or historical contexts where tyranny has been a prevailing theme. The use of “cloud” metaphorically conveys the ubiquity and enveloping nature of the oppressive atmosphere. The title suggests an urgent and impactful exploration of the consequences and resistance against tyranny.

In terms of quality and importance, a 25-page poem on such a theme indicates a substantial depth of exploration. The length allows for nuanced examination, possibly delving into historical narratives, personal stories, or allegorical elements. The importance lies in its potential to provoke critical reflection, inspire resistance, and serve as a commentary on the human condition. The extensive canvas of the poem provides room for intricate detail and varied perspectives, enriching the reader’s experience and contributing to the discourse on the struggle against tyranny.

The conclusion of the long poem was like advice, which the poet Hilal may have derived from his struggles in life. He says:

“why do you run after people?
Do not squander your precious time .
Make you life, all will enclose you.
Moths move round the flame, not darkness.”

This poem seems to convey a message of caution and self-reflection. The lines suggest a plea for individuals to focus on their own lives rather than pursuing others. The notion of time as precious is a common theme, urging readers to be mindful of how they invest their time and energy. The metaphor of moths circling a flame evokes the idea of attraction to something potentially harmful, cautioning against being drawn to negative influences.

Constructively, the poem effectively communicates its message with brevity and simplicity. However, it might benefit from providing more specific details or examples to enhance clarity. Additionally, the language could be refined to create a smoother flow and strengthen the impact of its metaphors. Overall, it carries a valuable message about self-awareness and the choices we make in navigating life’s complexities.

I am TAGHRID BOU MERHI pleased and honored to write this introduction to this very wonderful book ” THE TUMULTUOUS OCEAN”, which is an outlet for every reader, who will find in it enjoyment, beauty, and sublime meanings.
