Seeking the meaning of life in the labyrinths of existence
Written By: Dr. Jihane El Feghali
In face of everything happening in our world, this finite existence that narrates events and brings them to light, humanity stands bewildered, questioning the essence of its life and contemplating the reality of its lost dreams.
A person finds themselves suspended between an obscure past and an unknown future.
The question then arises: How does one reconcile oneself amidst shattered hopes, shifting paths, and the looming shadow of evil?
Throughout history, humanity has relentlessly sought to grasp life’s reins, carving out a social framework for existence. But where does today’s human being stand in this pursuit? Are their dreams still cloaked in simplicity?
Humanity has begun to seek a genuine meaning for its existence, for its dreams. its aspirations are no longer confined to daily life. This is nothing but a continuous journey—a repetitive cycle of trials that shape and mature us as we navigate our existence and reflect on our unanswered questions. What do we want from life? Why do we exist? What can we offer the world? Do I contribute to evil, deceit, malice, and gossip? or do I live in peace, rebuild what life’s trials have destroyed, restore what remains of my dreams, and move forward?
As the Austrian philosopher Viktor Frankl, who experienced the horrors of Nazi captivation camps, once said:
“To live is to suffer; to survive is to find meaning in that suffering. If there is a purpose in life, there must also be a purpose in suffering and ultimately in death.”
The ability to uncover the meaning of suffering and to draw lessons from life’s trials enables a person to preserve their existence. It broadens their perspective and deepens their understanding of life.
Many seek life’s meaning through productive work, spiritual experiences, art, or self-discovery. For some, it resides in simple joys—a sunrise, a child’s laughter, or inner peace found in the sanctuary of quiet moments.
The discovery of life’s meaning begins within. It stems from those internal energies that guide us through our trials. While our paths may differ, they all lead us to the same universal quest.
Let us, then, search for peace in life’s small, simple moments, for gratitude is the essence of our daily lives.
